Last Call

Before We Get to the Last Call, Lemme Share Some Exciting News…

I am incredibly humbled and excited to announce that I’ve been named an INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR at Story Studio Chicago! I’ve been teaching with SSC since 2020, when my dear friend and mentor Megan Stielstra recommended me to teach a personal essay and memoir class. Teaching both fiction and memoir with SSC, particularly as core faculty this year, has been so much fun, and expanding my literary community through this work has been a joy. Thank you to everyone who voted for me. I am affirmed by the work we do together. Thank you.

Last Chance… For Now…

Perhaps because it was my life for twelve years, I still see my year in “semesters.” I teach for fall and spring, then take time for myself in the summer. One day, I hope to shake this model, claiming time whatever the season to rest, write, and explore. Until then, I’m using the summer months to focus on my writing—with a goal of finishing my memoir draft by September—so I’ll be closing my calendar after my last Once and Future Lovers tour stops in June.

Y’all know how fast time goes, and summer will be here before you know it, so dig the following opportunities to take a class, participate in a workshop, or attend a book tour event before I go all creative hermit crab to finish my book this summer!

Reckoning with Remembrance

In this six week memoir class, writers will explore the science of memory, its strengths and weaknesses, the ways it helps us make sense of our lives and the ways it complicates our feelings. We’ll use what we learn as an opportunity to retool our memories as writing prompts, recast them as research topics, and reimagine the way we tell our stories.

Dates: Tuesdays, May 9 - June 13
Class Time: 6:30pm – 9:00pm CT
Location: Zoom (online)
