WORKING WRITER PHOTO OF THE MONTH:

The above photo is a snapshot of what I used to call 'Tasty Treats.' Before there was a printed book, before there was an eBook, there were 'Tasty Treats.' I printed short stories on fancy paper with borders and other flare and either gave them away or asked for donations. On top of the 'Tasty Treats' is a copy of my eBook, again a shot at the underground hustle. I burned my collection to discs and sold them for $5.00. I'm on a book tour now, with printed copies of Once and Future Lovers in tow, and I couldn't be more overjoyed. I haven't 'made it' by any means, but it feels damn good to see this photo then look over at my book on someone's shelf. Moral of the story: Whatever your hustle, however underground, do it. Push it. Live it. All journeys are made of small steps.

Also, a super-special shout out to everyone with copies of my 'Tasty Treats.'

A busted bicycle mocks a broken heart, a magical mirror struggles to sustain an inter-racial fantasy, a teenager finds the truth about desire in the heft of her grandmother's breast, and a woman contemplates parenthood as the daughter of a sometimes father. These are the stories hearts tell. Once and Future Lovers illuminates these tales and others by shining a light on the men and women who take the great risk that is loving. In this provocative collection of stories, the characters uncover the courage to love while facing the inherent challenge put to all lovers: embracing or denying the possibility of loving again, and again.
